Cows are among the oldest domesticated animals known and are raised for meat, milk and draft animals. A medium-sized cow averages 1,100 to 1,400 pounds, while bulls weigh in at 1,600 to 2,000 pounds. The coat color varies from breed to breed - from glossy black, to brown-red to spotted and pied, to ivory white.

A family milk cow will generally yield about 12 quarts daily for from eight to 12 months.

Combat

Domestic cows vary in their docility. However, an irate cow can give a nasty bite, and many have sharp horns, not to mention hooves.
